Probably the most underrated part of a website and unsurprisingly one of the most useful aspects of it as well. A sitemap is simply a list/ table of all the pages that are on your website. Although you can probably organize your sitemap to look however you please, the most popular is making it look like an outline of the entire website, so a visitor to your site knows which link goes to which page.
There are essentially three kinds of sitemaps: HTML sitemap, XML Sitemap, and a Video sitemap. A HTML sitemap is one which has links to all of the pages on the site. It serves two purposes, with search engines, it is a whole extra page with keywords and links and for human users, it allows for easier navigation and clarity.
An XML sitemap is one that has every URL on the site listed on one page. While the former is suited for business sites, these are more suited to blogs, that the permalink to every post until then, making it faster for people to search what they are looking for
The third kind is Video sitemaps. These are the list of videos that are present on the site. In a lot of cases, since it is rather tough to create, they are neglected, but they are highly helpful to SEOs because it gives details of the video itself.
As fast as the deadline approaches, as many as the other more important tasks that may take your time, it is very important to create a sitemap for a website. Most importantly, don’t just create it and ignore it, update and keep it fresh!
